Finishing Drills – Finishing Game with Target Areas

DESCRIPTION
• 2 players in each target zone and one neutral defender in the center
• the coach calls out a number 1 – 4
• one of the players with the number becomes the defender and helps the blue neutral player in the center of the square to defend his target zone (other player stays behind to be the target player)
• the defender passes a ball to any of the other three players and all of them become attackers to make 3vs2
• attackers (no. 1,3 & 4) score by passing to target player number 2 who is inside his target zone
• defenders score passing to any of the other three target players in their target zones
• kick-ins only
VARIATION
• attackers must make a lofted pass to target player in order to score
• limit number of touches for attackers
• adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group

• communication
• selection & timing of pass
• get into line of flight of the ball
• switch point of attack away from pressure
• keep the ball moving with quick accurate passing
• aggressive and positive mentality

DESCRIPTION
• each team defends one goal
• play 4v4 in the middle zone
• one striker in each end zone
• all players must stay in their designated zone
• teams must connect three passes before they can pass to the attacking player in the end zone
• the attacking player then lays off for a shot on goal as shown
• switch players in end zones
VARIATION
• play with 2 mini goals on each goal line
• play 5v5, 6v6, 7v7 in the middle zone etc.
• strikers inside the end zone are neutral which allows teams to score on both goals
• limit number of touches for strikers
• adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group
