We can characterize ball possession as a collective and continuous movement that provides a safe offensive evolution and, at the same time, the effective occupation of defensive spaces, preventing the opponent from playing.
By adopting a tactical system that favors possession of the ball, the teams have all the players prepared to assume different roles during the plays. It is essential to look for free spaces to receive the ball in the best possible conditions.
It is good to keep in mind that a team playing in a tactical system that favors possession of the ball is also betting on the success of its defense. While the team owns the ball, the opposing team can’t attack.
To help coaches develop the ball possession skills of their players and, to enable them to adopt techniques to adopt game systems that favor ball possession, we have prepared a new video with ball possession exercises.
