Possession Drills – Zone Keep Away 4

DESCRIPTION
• teams play 3v1 keep away in each zone
• blue team has one player in each of those areas and two players ateach end who stand outside the playing area
• all players must all stay in their own area
• red players must connect 3 passes before they can pass the ball across the middle zone to a red player on the other side
• blue players on each side try to intercept the ball or force the red team into making an error
• teams switch roles after 4-5 minutes or if defenders intercept a total of 7 passes
VARIATION
• play 4v2, 3v2 etc.
• attackers must make a lofted pass to teammates in opposite zone
• limit number of touches
• adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group

DESCRIPTION
• both teams have 2 players in one zone and 3 players in the other
• all players must stay in their designated area
• the team with three players in a zone plays keep away from the two defenders by utilizing a neutral in the middle zone (4v2)
• if the two defenders win the ball they try to play it to the neutral player who turns and passes the ball to a player on the other side of the central zone where three “attackers” again try to keep possession by utilizing the neutral player (4v2)
VARIATOIN
• play 4v2, 3v1 etc.
• limit number of touches for attackers
• adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group

• vision
• body position – open to field
• decision making
• verbal and visual communication
• good first touch takes ball away from pressure
